Sorry for the radio silence — been busy relaxing! Ended up staying a couple of days before heading off toward Summertown, just north of Oxford, where I eventually found a really peaceful spot.
I’ve decided to make for the Grand Union, since it doesn’t look like the North Oxford is going to reopen anytime soon. With CRT keeping the mooring restrictions south of the closure, I’m not keen on shuffling back and forth along the same 15-mile stretch every two weeks.
That’s the nice thing about Jericho — and why so many boaters love it — everything you need is within a 10-minute walk. Once you go further north, the towns and villages leave you miles away from any shops, which is just part of the trade-off with canal life. It definitely makes you plan ahead.
So, with that in mind, it’s off to Thrupp to turn around.
