Surprise Surprise!

Woke up feeling groggy, so I popped a couple of paracetamol and decided another two hours of sleep was the best medicine. Eventually got moving around 10:30, heading for Reading—my last push before venturing into uncharted waters.

It turned into one of those “jacket on, jacket off” kind of days. One minute I was chilly, the next I was overheating. Either the weather couldn’t make up its mind, or I’m coming down with something.

Around 1 o’clock my brother rang. He couldn’t get onto his own boat, which is in Iver having some work done, so he figured he’d come see me as he was passing through. At the time I was near Pangbourne and told him my plan was to moor in Reading—still a good two hours away. I suggested he meet up with our cousin Pete, who’s based at the marina there.

By the time I finally reached Reading at 4 p.m., the three of us decided on a spontaneous Sunday lunch. We ended up at The Traveller’s Inn—busy, but a pleasant surprise. Quite possibly the first proper cooked dinner I’ve had in a while; I usually stick to quick and easy meals. (That one will keep my sister happy! 🤣
