Heroes of the canals

Doing my usual engine checks the other day, I noticed my fuel was getting low. I happened to stumble across a post from Jules Fuels mentioning the fuel boat will be heading between Napton & Cropready. It’s managed to beat the closures due to low water levels. Dropped them a message asking for what I needed, gave them my exact location and boat’s name. The next morning at 11, I heard the distinctive sound of a Lister engine (a proper diesel pet). After 10 minutes, I now have half a tank.

I decided to move today. The sun wasn’t shining, so it was best to run the engine to charge the batteries. Rather than waste the fuel sitting on the bank, I may as well cruise, ending up leap frogging the fuel boat all afternoon. The reason I call them heroes is simple: they provide a service all year round. Even when the canals are iced over, they will try and get supplies of diesel, coal & wood for you. Anyway, tonight’s stop is a place called Aynho.
